Information requirements, or information exchanges, are the formal issues of information to the client for review and sign off at key stages of a building project.

Each RIBA Stage ends with an agreed set of information, such as a design, a cost plan, a programme or a brief, which the client reviews before deciding whether to proceed. Defining these exchanges at the outset, usually in the project execution plan and the consultant appointments, makes it clear who must provide what, in what format and by when. On projects using building information modelling (BIM), the term has a more specific meaning under the ISO 19650 series, where the client sets out its information requirements and the exchange information requirements for each appointment. For the QS, the information exchanges determine which cost reports are due at each stage and what design information must be received in order to produce them.
