In the context of order of cost estimates and cost plans, the cost breakdown structure (CBS) represents the cost breakdown of a building project into cost targets for elements or work packages. The CBS, in conjunction with the work breakdown structure (WBS),provide a codification framework order of cost estimates and cost
plans. This facilitates the easy transference of items into works packages or contract works for the purposes of procurement, for example. Note: the terms ‘cost group’ and ‘cost sub-group’ are used in by ICMS, instead of group element, element, and sub-element.
