FIDIC Contracts Explained
FIDIC, short for the French “Fédération Internationale des Ingénieurs-Conseil” and translated as the International Federation of Consulting Engineers, was established in 1913 by France, Belgium, and Switzerland, with the UK joining in 1949. Unlike other contract frameworks like NEC or JCT, FIDIC not only offers a set of contracts but also provides a membership structure for consulting engineers from over 97 countries. It is renowned for its standard form contracts for the construction and engineering sectors.
